The Eye Flashcards
How do we see things?
Light bounces off surfaces into our eyes
What are the main 6 parts of the eye?
Iris Cornea Pupil Lens Retina Optic nerve
What does the iris do?
The iris controls the amount of light that enters the eye by opening and closing the pupil.
What does the cornea do?
The cornea functions like a window that controls and focuses the entry of light into the eye. It is in front of the pupil protecting the eye from infection.
What does the lens do?
The lens transmits light, focusing it onto the retina
What does the pupil do?
The pupil is an opening through which light can enter the eye.
What does the retina do?
The retina is an essential part of the eye that enables vision. It’s job is to revive light from the lens.
What does the optic nerve do?
It transmits sensory information for vision in the form of electrical impulses from the eye to the brain.
What does the aqueous humour do?
It keeps the lens moist
What is a blind spot?
The blind spot is the spot in your retina where the optic nerve connects meaning there is a blind spot in your eye
