The executive brain Flashcards
what is the “stroop test”?
test with response interference
e. g. the word “ red” written in blue color
- > task is to say the ink color
what is perseveration?
failure to shift attention away from previous response
associated with damage to the PFC
what is reversal learning?
learning that a previously rewarded stimulus or response is no longer rewarded (but punished)
explain: somatic marker hypothesis
emotional en bodily states associated with previous behaviours are used to influence decision making
what is “delay discounting”?
future reward has less subjective value than same reward now
3 surfaces of PFC with function for executive function
- lateral -> cognitive aspects
- orbital & medial -> emotional/social regulation of behaviour
left/ right hemisphere of PFC - tasks
- left lateral -> task setting
- right lateral -> task monitoring
top-down vs bottom-up
top down: controlled processing, task relevant, goals etc
bottom up: automatic processing, salient object gets processed regardless it’s relevance
2 effects on judging validity of syllogism
- atmosphere effect: “all/all/all” -> likely true
- belief bias: syllogism true or agrees with beliefs of person -> more likely judged as valid
4 heuristics
- availiability: events more easily remberred are judged as more probable
- representativeness: ignoring the base rate (conjunction rule)
- confirmation bias
- anchor effect
risky decisions: 2 strategys
- risk aversion strategy: if problem is stated in terms of gains
- risk taking strategy: if problem is stated in terms of losses
2 systems for decision making
- fast intuitive system - automatic processing
- slow analytic system - controlled processing
