The acting brain Flashcards
action vs. movement
action: cognitive process
movement: physical act - need not to cognitive (reflex)
sensory motor transformation problem
the problem of linking together the position of an object and the position of limbs
what is preservation?
repeating an action that has been performad but is no longer relevant
explain the SAS model
SAS: supervisory attentional system
selects schema’s of automatic behaviour depending from situation
intervention if action requires attention
damage in PFC results in a weaker SAS
what is the role of the subcortex in action?
- cerebellar loop = visual feedback
- basal ganglia loop = initiation/execution of internally generated movements
- influences the probability of a movement
what is contention scheduling`?
mechanism that selects one particular schema to be enacted from a host of competing schemas
what is frontal apraxia?
also called action disorganisation syndrome
failure in routine tasks that involve setting up and maintaining subgoals
no deficit in object recognition etc.
what is the forward model?
forward model: representation of the motor command (efference copy) -> used to predict sensory consequences of an action
what is optic ataxia?
inability to use vision to guide action
