What happened on day 1? (20th January 1649)

A

Charles was brought up to court,
He sat in a red velvet seat,
He did not take off his hat which made him seem disrespectful.

Day 2

A

Court continued to ask Charles to plead innocent or guilty to charges,
To argue about how he felt that he should not be put on trial, Charles argued that the courts were the kings courts and under his authority.

Charles kept refusing to plead,
He kept arguing about how because he was the King, he should not be put on trial.

A

As well as things not going how Parliament had hoped, a leading judge who refused to take part in the trial said publically that the King should not be tried by any court.

A

John Bradshaw read out the verdict,
He said that it was Charles’ duty, like any king, to contact Parliament frequently and hence failed in his duties as a king.
