What is contractarian theory?
A
- Morality is based on agreement
- Non-humans cannot make agreements and thus can neither create or have moral duties
-We care about animal welfare because they matter to other humans

A
- Morality is about maximizing human and animal well-being
- Harm to animals may be justified if it leads to a net increase in welfare

A
- Morality grows out of our relationship with animals and another
- Our duties to animals depend on whether they’re close to us

- Good results cannot justify evil means
- Fixed ethical rules place limits on our treatment of animals
