what is it
When the equality act came into force it simplifies the existing laws covering discrimination, such as the sex discrimination act, race relations act and disability discrimination act and put them all together in one piece of legislation

Legally protects people from direct and indirect discrimination on the basis of 9 protected characteristics
aspect 2
-it replaced a number of different anti-discriminatory laws with a single Act, making the law easier to understand and strengthening protection

Prohibits discrimination in education, employment, access to goods and services and housing
aspect 4
Victimisation and harassment are illegal on the basis of a protected characteristic
Reasonable adjustments’ have to be made by employers/ providers of goods and services (e.g. installing a ramp)

-Discrimination by association is also illegal- so it also gives protection to the carers of someone with a protected characteristic
