This act relates to those being assessed or receiving social care and their carers. Key aspects

Mainly for adults in need of care and support

Outlines the way in which local authorities should carry out needs assessments – including having an advocate available

Outlines how local authorities (e.g. Hampshire) should determine who is eligible for support and how local authorities should charge for both residential and community care

Continuity of care must be provided if someone moves from one area to another

Local authorities have a duty to promote an individuals wellbeing when making decisions about a persons care

-There are some provisions for when children in need of care and support have to move location also for parents carers of children in need of care and support , and young carers

Local authorities MUST carry out a ‘Child’s Needs Assessment’ for a young person when there is likely to be a need for support after they reach 18
