What does the endocrine system do
Works alongside the nervous system to control vital functions in the body
What does the thyroid gland produce
Hormones
What are hormones
Secreted into the bloodstream and affect any cell in the body that has a receptor for that particular hormone
What does the thyroid gland produce
Hormone thyroxine that increases heart rate and increases metabolic rates
Where is the pituary gland located
Brain
What does the pituary gland do
Controls the release of hormones from all other endocrine glands, master gland
What is fight or flight response
Hypothalamus triggers a response in the sympathetic branch of ans the ans becomes aroused and adrenaline is released into the bloodstream therefore creating a physiological response eg increased heart rate
What is parasympathetic response
Process of returning body to normal resting state after an event
