When was the Geneva summit meeting and what happed there?
Held over 2 days in November 1985. Reagan would not give up on Star Wars which complicated matters however both leaders spoke fo the world becoming a safer place.
What was the Geneva Accord?
it committed the countries to speed up arms talks, work towards the abolition of chemical weapons and be more active on human rights issues.
What happened at the Reykjavik summit and when was it?
1986, Gorbachev and Reagan again became deadlocked on Star Wars, although they tentatively agreed on some sweeping reductions.
What happened at the Washington summit and when was it?
December 1987 and the agreement on The Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF)
What was INF?
Intermediate Nuclear Forces treaty - it eliminated nuclear and conventional ground-launched ballistic and cruise missiles with ranges of 500 to 5500 km. Both leaders stressed thh this was the first step towards an even more radical agreement.
When was the Moscow summit and what happened there?
May-June 1988, it lead to the CFE
What the CFE?
The Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty. This was signed by NATO and Warsaw Pact representatives in November 1990. it reduced the number of tanks, missiles, aircraft and other forms of non-nuclear military hardware held by signatory states.
What happened at the Malta summit and when was it?
1989, Bush and Gorbachev were able to announce the end of the Cold War.
What happened at the 1990 Washington summit?
Bush and Gorbachev discussed START.
What was START 1?
Treaty for the Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms. Signed 31st July 1990. it called for both sides to reduce nuclear forced over 7 years to a specified numbers of weapons and equipment.
