Q

Quotations that shows she looks on her city in a positive way - power of memories

A

“I am branded by an impression of sunlight”
Sunlight is repeated and there is a semantic field of light

“It may be at war, it may be sick with tyrants”she still loves her city whatever state it is in now, this is because she knows how beautiful and wonderful it can be and she doesn’t want to lose those memories. The repetition emphasises how the issues are less of a problem for the narrator; the memories she has can’t be ruined.

“The worst news I receive of it cannot break my original view”

‘I comb its hair and love its shining eyes’ These references personify the city as very dear to the narrator, she has a loving relationship with it. It is perhaps a one-sided relationship.
