A
How much control a person feels they have over their own life with reference to internal + external factors

- They are less likely to be influenced by how the crowd is behaving as they can control their own behaviour and have self confidence
- According to uni of west Virginia, people with internal loc are more likely to take part in protests because they believe they have an influence over changes in society

What does Ransford investigate?

- violent behaviours in crowds
- He questioned men immediately after a large-scale riot in America (1965) and found that males with external locus of control and a feeling that they were not in control of the situation reported to be more prepared to resort to violence to achieve aims compared to someone with ILOC.

After 2011 London riot, of those who were bought to court, around half were under 21 and only 5% were over the age of 40.if internal loc increases with age, this would explain it all.
