The duodenum, pancreas and spleen. Flashcards
What is the direction and vertebral level of each part of the duodenum?
Superior - very short and runs to the right. Anterolateral to LI.
Descending - descending along the right sides of L1-3.
Inferior - Runs to the left, crosses L3 vertebrae
Ascending - short, begins at left of L3 and rises as far as upper border of L2.
What is the blood supply to the duodenum?
Coeliac trunk supplies proximal duodenum via superior pancreatoduodenal artery and gastroduodenal arteries.
The superior mesenteric supplies the distal duodenum via the inferior pancreatoduodenal artery and 1st jejunal branch).
Which vein is formed behind the neck of the pancreas?
The superior mesenteric and splenic veins join to form the portal vein.
Which part of the pancreas is drained by the accessory pancreatic duct?
The uncinate process.
What is the blood supply to the pancreas?
Derived mainly from the splenic artery. Also the pancreaticoduodenal arteries and branches of the superior mesenteric.
What are the important relations of the pancreas?
Head: C-shaped concavity of duodenum. Unicate process: posterior to superior mesenteric vessels - portal vein forms superiorly. Body: passes over the aorta and L2. Tail: passes between layers of the splenorenal ligament.
To which ribs is the spleen related?
9-10
At what vertebral level does the hilum of the spleen lie?
L1
What connects the spleen to the greater curvature of the stomach?
The gastrosplenic ligament
What connects the spleen to the left kidney?
The splenorenal ligament.
