The DAW Flashcards
MP: What is the audio cd standard (bits)? What is best used for production?
16 bit word length. Every measurement is a 16 bit word. (= 16 bits = 2^16).
24 bit word length.
MP: What does a higher bit word length provide you for your recordings?
A wider dynamic range.
MP: What do we store in the bit word length?
The amplitude.
MP: What is the sampling rate?
How many measurements we make per second. The higher sampling rate, the higher frequency we can represent accurately in the digital domain.
MP: Explain nyquist frequency
e.G. if you have a sampling rate of 44100 hertz, we can accurately represent half of that in the digital domain.
MP: If we want to record all the human can hear, what should our sampling rate be.
at least 40000 hertz. Because of the nyquist frequency we can represent 20000 hertz digitally.
MP: What happens if we increase the sampling rate when playing audio.
We speed up the audio track.
