What is the function of the OLFACTORY nerve?
carries Sensory information for smell.
What is the function of the OPTIC nerve?
Sensory
carries visual info from the eyes
What is the function of the OCULOMOTOR nerve?
Motor
moves the eyeball
What is the function of the TROCHLEAR nerve?
Motor nerve responsible for movement of the superior oblique eye muscle
What is the function of the TRIGEMINAL nerve?
Both
- Sensory on the mid-face, upper jaw, and upper teeth
- Motor movement of the mandible, chewing muscles
What is the function of the ABDUCENS nerve?
Motor nerve responsible for one of the 6 eye muscles. It Abducts the eye.
What is the function of the FACIAL nerve?
Both
It’s a mixed nerve that carries out motor commands for the muscles of the face and 2 of 3 salivary glands.
Sensory for the front 2/3 of tongue
What is the function of the VESTIBULOCOCHLEAR nerve?
Sensory nerve in the inner ear that carries out hearing and sense of balance.
- Cochlear branch- for hearing
- Vestibular branch- for sense of balance
What is the function of the GLOSSOPHARYNGEAL nerve?
Both
- Sensory for back 2/3 of the tongue and pharynx
- motor control of swallowing
What is the function of the VAGUS nerve?
Both
Mixed nerve that is vital to the autonomic control of visceral function and has a variety of motor components.
What is the function of the ACCESSORY nerve?
Motor nerve that controls voluntary swallowing muscles
