attempt by the catholic church to bring many protestants back to old faith.

the jesuits

what did the society of jesus do?
began to send missionaries to england from 1580. it’s purpose was to convert the protestant population to catholicism
what were the two main jesuits?

what did campion do?
travel around the country spreading his message
what was the difference between campion and parsons?
parsons kept a lower profile
what did campion become?
a wanted man because the authorities were convinced he wanted to start a rebellion
were the jesuits really a threat?
jesuits like campion claimed that they didn’t want to start a rebellion but just wanted to spread their religious message.
however liz and many others saw them as a threat to the stability of england even if they weren’t directly involved in plots against her

he was arrested and even though he told everyone that he didn’t have any plans to overthrow the queen he was brutually tortured and dragged through london before being hanged, drawn an quartered

1585 act against jesuits and seminary priests called for them to be driven out of England and many were executed
