it seemed like it would succeed but the leader who had gone to britain came back and found the colonists had gone and a local tribe name craved into a tree

kidnapped several hundred west africans and sold them in south america as slaves
how did exploration increase wealth?
- raiding spanish ships and ports allowed stolen riches to be brought back
-trading systems established and spices, silks. and porcelain were all brought back to england
-trade with east in spices and other goods grew as english sailors could deal directly with merchants in asia
-new trade companies were created to deal with trade in a particular area
-trade in african american slaves brought wealth. other englishmen saw how hawkins benefitted from slave trade and slave labour enabled raw materials to be produced cheaply in the americas
