Magistrates
Judges who presided over hearings in magistrates courts in benches of 3. They deal with most criminal cases in England and Wales. Some work in the family court. They are part time, unpaid and do not need any legal qualifications
Legal advisor
A legal advisor gives impartial legal advice on the law and sentencing options to magistrates in court
Jury
A group of lay people selected at random to decide on questions of fact, primarily whether or not the defendant is guilty in criminal cases heart in the crown court. 12 jurors usually make up the jury. They are not paid for their attendance but they do receive an allowance
