A unique name given to a product to distuinguish itself from similar products eg. Nike

Series of lines and numbers on a product
Used to speed up checkout
Used for stock control purposes
Loss leaders
Shops offer to sell products at a discount to attract customers, and hopefully attract them to buy goods that aren’t on a discount

Key principals for goods
- The seller has title to the goods (legally owns them)
- The goods are of merchantable quality (performs function)
- The goods are fit for purchase (so what is said)
- The goods supplied are as described
- Goods must confirm to sample (eg. On catalogue)

Guaranteed of Warranty
Statement saying that the manufacturer will repair or replace an item within a stated period of time after the purchase
Trade association
An organisation representing all or most of the producers or sellers in a particular industry
Procedures when making a complaint
- Go to shop, speak to manager
- Write a letter of complaint (if 1 fails)
- Go to trade association (if 2 fails)
- Go to Small Claims Court (“3”)

The act makes it an offence to —–
- Make a false/misleading claim about the goods, services, or prices
- Practise aggressive commercial practices
- Bans pyramid schemes
- Established the National Consumer Agency

- Promote and protect the interest and welfare of consumers
- Enforce consumer laws
- Encourage sleeps to comply with laws
- Investigate suspected offences
- Refer cases to the Director Of Public Prosecution
Ombudsman
People responsible for investigating complaints from consumers against a company
Contract is only valid if:
- One party makes an offer
- Another accepts it
- There is consideration exchanged (money/goods)
