What was the Separation of Powers?
It is a government divided into three branches
What made up the Legislative branch and what was its main function?
It is made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Its main function is to make laws
Who heads the Executive branch and what are they responsible for?
The President heads this branch and they are responsible for carrying out all the laws
They are also commander and chief of the armed forces
What makes up the Judicial branch?
The Supreme Court and other federal courts
The courts hear cases that involve the Constitution and any laws passed by Congress
What is the Electoral College?
it is made up of electors from every state
What would electors do every four years?
They would meet as a group and vote for the President and Vice President of the United States.
What was the system of checks and balances?
Under this system, each branch of the government has some way to check, or control the two other branches.
How can the President check the power of Congress?
By vetoing or rejecting a proposed law.
Can Congress overrule the President’s veto?
Yes
What power does Congress have over the President?
The Congress has the power to remove a President from office.
What is impeachment?
when a president is charged with a crime or misbehavior
Who must approve the judges the Presidents appoints?
The Senate
Who can remove a judge from the court?
Congress
Is the Constitution a living document?
Yes, because it can be amended
