What is community interpreting?
A profession that facilitates access to community services for linguistically diverse clients who do not speak the language of service
Interpreter
“language professional who conveys a message produced in a source language (2.4.5), be it spoken or signed, into a target language (2.4.6), spoken or signed, in real time and whose task is to convey every element of the message.”
Define medical interpreting.
Interpreting that takes place in any health care facility setting; also known as Health Care Interpreting.

“What are language access laws?
” can be defined as the use of language assistance to facilitate the ability of an individual who does not speak, read, write or understand the language of service well to obtain meaningful access to that service.
List the minimum requirements for a community interpreter to practice as an interpreter.
- Be 18 years old or older,
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrate bilingualism and literacy, preferably by showing a language proficiency test
- Hold a certificate for professional interpreter training, at least 40 hours.
Describe the difference between a certificate and certification.
Certification -3rd party certify you to do something
- Take exam to be certified an individual has the capacity to perform a particular set of skills. Certificate- A legal document attesting to a fact. training certificate could show proof of completion of a program.
- 40 hours interpreting program training does not certify you to do anything
