A sacred site (place) where gods/goddess were consulted during ancient Greek times; any priest or priestess who spoke for the gods

Hellenistic
A term that describes Greeks culture after the death of Alexander the Great ; the three main kingdoms formed by the break up of Alexander’s empire
City – state
A city that Has its own independent government and often controls much of the surrounding land ex. Athens and Sparta were city states of Greece
Agora
A public market and meeting place in an ancient Greek city
Acropolis
A fortified or strengthened hill in the center of the city – state; used for protection
Parthenon
A marble temple built to honor Athena; on top of the acropolis in Athens
