The Clark Fisher Model Flashcards
Define Primary
A job that involves taking a natural resource from the earth i.e. coal mining, fishing, farming
Define Secondary
A job that involves making or manufacturing something i.e. seamstress, car production, steel production
Define Tertiary
A job in the service sector providing a ‘service’ for somebody i.e. teacher, chef, office worker, nurse, shop worker, mechanic
Define Quaternary
A highly skilled job that involves ICT or research and development i.e. computer programmer, research scientist
During the pre-industrial period, what does the Clark Fisher Model look like?
Primary-Starts at 70%-has the biggest percentage of employment in this sector
Secondary- Starts at 20%- has the second biggest percentage of employment working in this sector
Tertiary- Starts at 10%- has the smallest percentage of employment working in this sector
Quaternary- doesn’t exist on the Clark Fisher Model yet
During the industrial period, what does the Clark Fisher Model look like?
Primary- from having the biggest percentage it declines swiftly during this period until it has the smallest percentage of employment
Secondary- has a peak half way during the industrial period but then declines a little bit
Tertiary- from being just over 15% at the start of the industrial period, it ends the industrial period having 50% of employment working in its sector
Quaternary- still doesn’t exist n the Clark Fisher Model
During the post-industrial period, what does the Clark Fisher Model look like?
Primary- after ending the industrial period with around 15% it ends the post industrial period at 10%
Secondary- after ending the industrial period with 35%, it ends the post-industrial period with 30%
Tertiary- it finished the industrial period with having the biggest percentage of 50% and also finishes with the biggest percentage of 55%
Quaternary- appears at the beginning of the post-industrial stage and ends with 5%
