What is Ostia?
Rome’s coastal port at the mouth of the Tiber River. It is the main area of marine activities which was begun by Claudius and has warehouses indispensable to meeting Rome’s needs
What’s further upstream beyond the wharves and the warehouses?
Tiber Island.
What is the Subura?
A densely populated district north of the Forum.
What type of people lived here?
Poor People. This includes barbers, shoemakers, butchers, weavers, vegetable sellers, prostitutes, and thieves.
What type of place is it to travel at?
It’s noisy and crowded and it’s hard to get through certain areas.
At what rate did the aqueducts bring in water?
200 million gallons a day
How did the rich and poor get their water?
Rich people had it brought into their houses through the aqueducts and the poor people had to go fetch water out of the fountains.
