The Circulatory System - The Heart Flashcards
What is the circulatory system?
Group of organs that help carry substances in and out of the body
What organs are included in the circulatory system?
Blood
Heart
Blood vessels
What type of circulatory systems do humans use?
A closed circulatory system meaning that the blood is contained in vessels
Advantages of Closed circulatory systems:
Can control the speed of blood flow
Can control the pressure of the blood
Can control the distribution of the blood to the body
Humans have double circulatory systems.
What is a double circulatory system?
A double circulatory system is a system where the blood is pumped to the lungs, returned to the heart and then pumped to to the rest of the body.
What is the heart?
The heart is an organ that helps blood flow in the body
What is the heart made out of ?
Cardiac Muscle (Tissue)
Name the 4 Chambers of the heart:
Right atrium
Left Atrium
Right ventricle
Left ventricle
Name the 4 Arteries and veins that transport the blood and out of the body:
Pulmonary Vein
Aorta
Vena Cava
Pulmonary Artery
Arteries carry what type of blood?
Oxygenated blood
What is the only artery that carries Deoxygenated blood?
Pulmonary Artery
Veins carry what type of blood?
Deoxygenated Blood
What is the only Vein that carries Oxygenated Blood?
Pulmonary Vein
Process of Blood flow:
- The heart is made out of Cardiac muscle.
- The Pulmonary Vein carries Oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left Atrium
- Blood pushed down to the left ventricle where it is squeezed out through the Aorta
- The Aorta carries the oxygenated blood to the cells for cellular respiration and after it goes through respiration ,it release Carbon dioxide and water
vapour . - This deoxygenated blood is then carried by the Vena Cava to the Right Atrium
- The blood then tricks down the right atrium into the right ventricle and the deoxygenated bloods then squeezed out into the pulmonary artery.
- The Pulmonary Artery carries the Deoxygenated Blood to the lungs for gas exchange
What is a pacemaker?
A group of cells in the right atrium that produce electrical impulses to the muscle to contract
