Plant cell organisation Flashcards
What are the 3 mains organs of a plant?
Stem
Leaves
Roots
What does a group of organs make up?
Organ system
What is the function of the Plants organ system?
To transport substances around the plant for them to live and thrive
Name the 7 plant tissue.
Epidermal layer (Upper & Lower
Palisade Mesophyll
Spongy Mesophyll
Stomata
Xylem & Phloem
Meristem
Epidermal layer function
Covers the whole plant
Palisade Mesophyll layer
Where photosynthesis occurs in plants
Spongy mesophyll
contains air gaps for diffusion
Stomata
Opens and closes to allow gaseous exchange (especially for Carbon dioxide from the atmosphere)
Xylem and phloem
Xylem- transport water through the plant
Phloem - transports mineral ions and food
Meristem
tip of the leaf that can differentiate from other plants
What happens in the leaf?
Photosynthesis
What does the leaf need more of?
Water and carbon dioxide
How does the water get into the plant?
Through the plants roots
How does the Carbon dioxide get into the Plant
Diffuses in from the atmosphere
Stages of How the plants photosynthesize
- Carbon dioxide enters the plant from the atmosphere and diffuses in through the open stomata.
- The CO2 goes into the spongy layer which has air gaps for the gas to easily diffuses into the palisade layer.
- In the palisade mesophyll layer, the CO2 is then used for Photosynthesis and releases Glucose and Oxygen.
- This is then carried by the xylem and phloem to be used for the growth of the plant.
