The Circulatory System Flashcards
What does the circulatory system do?
It is responsible for pumping blood to all the tissues of the body.
What do arteries do?
take out blood to the body and veins bring blood back into the heart.
What are the chambers of the heart?
Heart is split into 4 chambers. Two at the bottom are large (ventricles) and the top are atriums.
LA - RA
LV - RV
Which chamber of the heart is the largest and most powerful and why?
the LEFT VENTRICLE
it pushes out blood of the body, in the biggest artery, the aorta.
-the aorta branches out into smaller arteries.
What is the difference between arteries and veins?
Arteries take blood out, and veins bring it back.
When is blood blue?
WHen it is not oxygenated. Our blood is red in the arteries and blue when the non-oxygenated blood comes back to the arteries.
What are capillaries
small blood versels. They weave throughout our tissue and allow cells to absorb oxygen and the food that red blood cells are carrying. And then the wast product us picked up by other capillaries and fed back into veins.
What do our white cells do in our body?
are used to fight disease. The protectors of our body. Think police cars on highway.
What do red blood cells do?
they transport hemoglobin, oxygen, food supply
Where are blood cells produced (both red and white)?
they are both produced in the bone marrow
