The Circulatory System Flashcards
What is in the circulatory system?
The circulatory system is made up of the heart, blood vessels and blood.
What is an artery?
An artery carries oxygenated blood away from the heart.
What is a vein?
Veins travel to the heart and contains deoxygenated blood.
How does blood travel through the heart?
The heart has four chambers. Two atria and two ventricle. Blood enters the right atrium and then travels to the right ventricle to the lungs. In the lungs the blood is oxygenated. From the lungs, the blood goes to the left atrium, then to the left ventricle. The left ventricle pumps blood to the aorta, then to the whole body.
Where are the atria located?
The atria are located at the top of the heart.
Where are the ventricles located?
The ventricles are located at the bottom chamber of the heart.
What is a capillary?
A capillary is a small one cell thick wall that allows oxygen and carbon dioxide to go.
What makes up the heart?
The heart is made up of the left and right ventricles, left and right atrium. It is also made up of the superior and inferior vena cava. The pulmonary artery and aorta is in the heart as well.
What side of the heart is harder?
The left side of the heart is harder than the right. This is because the left side has to pump blood to the whole body whilst the right side only has to pump blood to the lungs.
