The Circulatory System 1 Flashcards
What is the circulatory system an example of
Organ system
What is the role of the circulatory system
Transport nutrients and oxygen to our bodies tissues
What is the circulatory system made up of
Heart,blood and blood vessels
What do human have
A double circulatory system- two circuits joined together
What is the role of the right ventricle
Pumps deoxygenated blood, to the lungs to take in oxygen. The blood then returns to the heart
What is the role of the left ventricle
Pumps oxygenated blood around all the other organs in the body. The blood gives up its oxygen at body cells. And Deoxygenated blood returns to the heart to be pumped out of the lungs again.
What 2 top chamber of the heart called
Right atrium left atrium
What are the two bottom chambers of the heart called
The right ventricle and left ventricle
On each side of the heart what separates the atrium and the ventricle
Valves- they prevents the blood from flowing backwards
Where does the blood flow into the heart
Vena cava and pulmonary vein
How does oxygenated blood enter the left atrium
Oxygenated blood from the lungs enter the left atrium through the pulmonary vein
Where is the blood from the vena cava coming from
The blood is returning from the loop and around the body and is deoxygenated
What is the journey of blood around the body
Body tissue- vena cava- right atrium- right ventricle- pulmonary artery- lungs- pulmonary vein- left atrium- left ventricle- aorta- body tissues
Which blood vessel carries oxygenated blood from the heat to the body
Aorta
What is the role and structure of the arteries
Pump blood out of the heart at high pressure, so the artery walls are strong and elastic.
They have a thick layer of muscle tissue and thick layer of elastic so they can stretch and spring back easily
The walls are thick compared to the lumen which is the whole in the middle
