The circularity system Flashcards
Plasma
Plasma is the liquid part of the blood that transports chemicals and heat
Red blood cells
Red blood cells are made in the jelly like centre of the bones called bone marrow and it transports oxygen
White blood cells
White blood cells are also made in the bone marrow and it helps fight infections

The vena cava
Deoxygenated blood enters the right atrium through a vein called the vena cava
The pulmonary artery
The pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs.
The pulmonary vein
The pulmonary vein carries oxygen-rich blood from the lungs to the left atrium
The aorta
Takes oxygen rich blood from the left ventricle to the body
Pulse
A wave of pressure from the heart as blood is pumped down the arteries
Exercise
Causes our cells to need more food and oxygen and produce more carbon dioxide
Heart disease
Small arteries on the way to the heart become clogged with fat. It is a major cause of illness and death in ireland
