The cerebellum Flashcards
What are the three parts of the cerebellum?
Neocerebellum, spinocerebellum, and vestibulocerebellum
What is the role of the neocerebellum?
Fine motor movement
What is the role of the spinocerebellum?
Motor movements from the spine and proprioception information
What is the role of the vestibulocerebellum?
Regulates posture and equilibrium
What is the role of the cerebellum?
Motor and balance control
What are the three lobes of the cerebellum called?
Anterior, posterior, and flocculondular lobes
Where does the anterior lobe get input from?
The spinal cord
Where does the posterior lobe get input from?
The brainstem and cerebral cortex
Where does the flocculonodular lobe get input from?
The vestibular nuclei
Lesions to the vestibulocerebellum may lead to what?
Balance and gait issues
What are the names of the three fibres the cerebellum?
Molecular, purkinje, and granular
Input fibres to the cerebellum come from where?
The skin and joints to the nerves and spinal cord
What are the roles of the peduncles?
Information about voluntary movements, proprioceptive information, and motor control
What are some symptoms of cerebellar damage?
Unclear speech, jumping eyes, hypotonic tone, poor coordination, abnormal movement, posture and gait
What may cause midline cerebellar lesions?
Stroke or tumour
