the cell Flashcards
outer cell membrane
makes sure everything stays inside/outside, molecules and ions can move through it only in certain ways
cell nucleus
contains DNA, genetic material, chromosones. building blocks for the proteins inside the cell
rough endoplasmic reticulum
network of channels and sacs dotted with ribosomes. makes the proteins based on the dna in the nucleus
ribosomes
small organelles that decided where proteins are formed and for what
smooth endoplasmic reticulum
makes the lipids and other things that form the membrane around the cell and other organelles within the cell, produces fat and steroid hormones
golgi apparatus
distribution centre, quality checks things produced in the reticulums before being transferred to the right place
mitochondria
produces energy for the cell
cytoskeleton / actin filaments
provides structure to the cell, grows inside extensions to make the stable, can change its structure
how do actin filaments help immune response
helps the white blood cells move around
micro tubuli
long tracks that allow for the rapid transport of molecules and organelles
why are micro tubuli important
important for cells with long extensions when proteins have to be transported all the way to the other end
