what is the cerebral cortex and what does it control?
the wrinkly part of the brain, it controls language, consciousness, memory and intellect
what is the cerebellum, where is it found and what does it control?
the back of the brain, it controls muscle coordination, e.g walking
what is the medulla and what does it control?
the unconscious part of the brain, it controls heart rate, breathing etc.
what is an MRI scan?
magnetic resonance imagery, produces a detailed image using a magnet
what three ways can you learn more about the brain?
MRI scan, studying people with brain damage and electrically stimulating the brain
what are the benefits of electrically stimulating the brain?
it can treat parkinson’s disease - the stimulations can improve symptoms (however this can be dangerous and can cause further brain damage)
