HOMEOSTASIS Flashcards
what is homeostasis?
maintaining a stable internal environment
give an example of homeostasis
body temperature, pH levels, blood glucose
what is negative feedback?
when the body counteracts any changes to bring it back to normal
what are the stages of negative feedback?
receptor detects stimulus, co-ordination centre, effector produces a response, counteracts the change and brings it back to normal (can take place more than once to fully counteract the change)
how does caffeine affect reaction time?
it slows it down
what are the control variables in the reaction time required practical?
the person dropping the ruler, the speed at which the ruler is dropped, the same ruler, the hand that catches it
