The Brain 3 Flashcards
Thalamus
3 primary functions
1.Receives ALL sensory info (Except smell)
2.filters that info. small amount goes to primary cortex and rest goes to basal ganglion and brain stem
3.coordinates voluntary and involuntary motor commands
Hypothalamus
what do its primary functions involve
6 main functions
-its functions invole maintaing homeostasis
1.controls pituitary gland
2.controls emotion and some feeling
3.regulates body temp
4.controls sleep cycle
5.recives olafactory info (smell)
6.relays info to autonomic center in the PONS and MEDULLA OBLONGATA
Mid-Brain
-directly below hypothalamus
-processes visual and auditory responses
-reflexes to sudden stimulus
-produces dopamine
Pons
-connects cerebellum with mid-brain
-involunary control of respiration
Medulla oblongata
-relay point between diencephalon, cerebrum, spinal cor
-control center for respiration, cardiovascular, and digestion
Cerebellum
-adjust movements (does NOT iniate motion)
1.makes rapid unconscious adjustments
2.programs voluntary and involntary movements from signals from the cerebrum and brain stem
Where is memory stored in the brain?
-cerebral cortex
-cerebrum
-hippocampus
-cerebellum
-synapses
what type of memory is stored in the cerebral cortex?
familair sounds, faces, taste, and smell
What type of memory is stored in the cerebrum and hippocampus?
short-term and long-term deeclaritive memory
What type of memory is stored in the cerebellum?
procedural memory
What are the two types of strokes and what main thing is happening in both?
- Hemorrhagic stroke=blood leaks in brain
2.Ischemic stroke=clot stops blood supply to brain
In both of these strokes, O2 is being depleted from brain
