The Brain Flashcards
Name the three types of cerebral cortex
-Neocortex (densely packed) (divided by gyri and sulci)
-Hippocampus (memory) (in each temporal lobe)
-Olfactory cortex (sensory)
Identify the lobes of the cerebrum, the primary motor, sensory, visual and auditory cortices, the hippocampus, the insula cortex, the basal ganglia, the amygdala.

Describe the types of axons that project through the corpus callosum and the internal capsule
Corpus callosum - commissural fibres
Internal capsule - projection fibres
Recall the role of the thalamus in connecting the cerebral cortex to various CNS regions.
-Thalamus connects the neocortex to CNS regions
-Over 50 nuclei, the relay station acts as a gateway to the cortex, connecting to the neocortex via projection fibres.
