What is the aim of the approach?
to generate a picture of the offender and their likely characteristics/behaviour/background
What is the profile?
data driven and emerges as investigator engages deeper in the scrutiny of the offence

What is interpersonal coherence?
the way the offender acts at the scene including interaction with the victim

as it may indicate where the offender lives
What does forensic awareness describe?
individuals who have been subject to police interrogation before
What does geographical profiling use?
information to do with the location of linked crimes to make inferences about the likely home of the offender
What is the assumption of geographical profiling?
serial killers will restrict their work to geographical areas they’re familiar with
What does understanding the spatial pattern of behaviours provide?
investigators with a centre of gravity that is likely to include the offenders base
What is the jeopardy target?
where the offender is likely to strike next
What is the marauder?
offender who operates in close proximity to their own home
What is the commuter?
offender who is likely to have travelled a distance from their base
