Eysenck's theory of criminal personality Flashcards
What did Eysenck propose?
that behaviour could be represented along two dimensions - introversion/extraversion and neuroticism/stability
What did Eysenck believe about personality traits?
they have a biological origin and come about through the type of nervous system we inherit
What are all P types?
innate and have a biological basis
What do extraverts have?
an underactive nervous system meaning they constantly seek excitement and learn from their mistakes
What do neurotics tend to be?
nervous and anxious therefore their behaviour is difficult to predict
What does socialisation teach people?
to be able to delay gratification and become more socially orientated
What did Eysenck believe about those with a high E and N score
had a nervous system that made them difficult to condition and would be likely to behave anti-socially
What did Eysenck develop?
the EPI test which responds along E and N
