The Biosphere, Adaptations and Classification Flashcards
What is a Biosphere?
The Biosphere is the global ecological system integrating all living beings and their relationships.
Give some examples of a what would be included in a biosphere.
Basically all non-living things including dirt rock wood etc.
Name all four types of the systems of the earth.
Lithosphere, Hydrosphere, Atmosphere and Biosphere.
What is an ecosystem?
An ecosystem can be large or small. It includes all living things in a particular place/area.
What is a biome?
A large naturally occurring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat, e.g. forest or tundra.
Name the seven processes of life.
Remember MRS GREN M= Movement R= Respiration S= Sensitivity G= Growth R= Reproduction E= Excretion N= Nutrition
Name all things living things need.
Energy Gases Water Soil Favorable Temperatures
What are the two types of adaptations?
Behavioural and physical.
Give 1 example of a physical adaptation.
Physical= Camel thorn- An animal comes up to the plant and eats the leave and thorn but the thorn then softens in the stomach and then the animal poops the thorn out which contains seeds.
Give 1 example of a behavioural adaptation.
Behavioural= Gemsbok- The Gemsbok can lower their blood temperature lower when it is too hot.
What is the word for ‘science of classifying living organisms’
Taxonomy
Name 5 types of kingdoms.
Plants Animals Fungi Protists Bacteria
Name all seven classification levels.
Remember= Keep Plates Clean Or Family Gets Sick K=Kingdom P=Phylum C=Class O=Order F=Family G=Genus S=Species
