the big 12 swing characteristics Flashcards
what are the 12 swing characteristics
c posture, s posture, loss of posture, flat shoulder plane, early extension, sway, slide, over the top, hanging back, casting scooping, chicken winging, reverse spine angle
which characteristic relies on impact line and the slot to have a good swing?
over the top
what is impact line?
the arc at impact, goal is to move through that impact plane line, if one starts over the impact plane line they may be coming through the impact plane line through another point of impact plane line (possible moving toward L with shot unless able to correct it and get back on impact plane line)
what does it mean for over the top characteristic to be in the slot?
the slot is, a line drawn from start position club shaft upwards past player, and at backswing when upper arm (humerus) is parallel to the ground draw the second line of club shaft to the ground, being in the slot with your shot is, for downswing, staying in this slot - if you are above it, you are over the top
over the top: any loss in angle of posture can force the ___ and ___ to fire first in transition (downswing) to help reposition the rotation instead of pelvis.
torso/arms - use bridge and leg extension/pelvis tilt test to assure enough core stability to maintain posture
If one needs good single leg stance for lead leg for weight shift, what would be a good test for them?
SLS
what tests are good to assure your client is able to disassociate and kick off pelvis initiating rather than upper body during downswing?
pelvic rotation tests and lower quarter tests
exercises to stay in the slot? (avoid over the top?
keep back to downswing, back hand needs to stay under lead hand exercise, arc a noodle with arc facing towards client and have them follow that arc (that arc is mimicking the natural arm that is needed to land at impact point) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYtoiQBXOFc&list=PLT3-hzoqu9psnbu5arghrGGwO5gC3fwKR&index=5
what is sway? what tests will help determine if they do or not?
sway is an y excessive movement of trail leg laterally. golfers need strong gluts (bridge with leg extension and SLS and lower quarter rotation test) and good R hip IR and the ability to dissassociate upper and lower body. (torso rotation test, lat test, seated trunk rotation, lower quarter rotation test)
other reasons players may sway?
Lack of understanding of proper technique.
Injury in the hip, knee or ankle.
Ball too far back in the stance.
