Logos
To appeal to the audiences’ sense of reason or logic.
Ex. 1 - A Dole fruit juice commercial that hypes vitamin and calorie stats.
Ex. 2 - Verizon shows a map to prove it has better coverage than AT&T.
Ethos
The character or emotions of a speaker or writer that are expressed in the attempt to persuade an audience
Ex. 1 - Crest saying 4 out of 5 dentists recommend using their products
Ex. 2 - A Marine veteran saying to be cautious in certain situations
Pathos
To persuade an audience by purposely evoking certain emotions to make them feel the way the author wants them to feel
Ex. 1 - Someone telling another person that an area of town is more dangerous at night
Ex. 2 - A security company trying to sell their product and saying, “Our advanced security systems will protect the well-being of your family”
