A

A photo do the site taken from the sky. Because features might not be visible from the ground.

Post-holes

A

Dark patches left by wooden poles in the soil. They might show the outline of a house even though the house no longer exists.

Carbon and radiocarbon dating

A

A method of dating artefacts. All living things contain carbon-14. When a living thing dies it loses it’s carbon 14. The older the living thing the less carbon 14 in it.

Dendrochronolgy

A

A method of dating wooden objects. Each year a tree adds a ring to its trunk. These rings add up the age if the tree. Archeologists study ring patters to date them.
