The Appendicular Skeleton - Lecture 7 Flashcards
Name all the bones of the Appendicular skeleton, differentiating from upper and lower.
upper: clavicle, humerus, radius, hand, scapula, ulna
lower: os coxae, fibula, tibia, femur, patella, foot
name the features of the clavicle and their orientation
manubrium end (medial), conoid tubercle (inferior), scapular end (lateral)
which bone is the first to begin forming and the last to complete it
clavicle
what surface of the scapula is smooth? what surface is jagged and irregular?
- superior smooth
- inferior jagged
name the features of the scapula
glenoid cavity, acromian process, coracoid process, scapular spine, body/blade
what is the glenoid cavity? is it medial or lateral?
forms part of your shoulder joint and is lateral
where does the humeral head fit into?
the glenoid fossa
where is the coracoid process on the scapula?
superior and anterior
where is the acromian process on the scapula?
superior and posterior
where is the scapular spine? what process does it turn into?
posterior and the acromian process
is the humeral head proximal or distal? does it point medially or laterally?
proximal and medially
what side of the humerus is the greater and lesser tubercle? which way is each tubercle pointing?
anterior
- greater is lateral
- lesser is medial
what features are on the distal end of the humerus?
- capitulum (joint the radius attaches to)
- Trochlea (spool shaped joint posterior and anterior, articulates with ulna)
- medial epicondyle
- olecranon fossa (posterior, where the olecranon process fits)
what is the deltoid tuberosity?
on the anterior lateral side and is a muscle attatchment
where is the neck of the humerus?
between the head and the diaphysis
where is the radius in relation to the ulna
lateral
name the features of the radius (superior to inferior)
head, radial tuberosity, shaft, ulnar notch, dorsal tubercle, styloid process
features of the ulna (superior to inferior)
olecranon process, trochlear notch, radial notch, shaft, styloid process
name the three regions of the hand and their bones
- wrist: 8 carpal
- palm: 5 metacarpals
- fingers: 14 phalanges
what is the acetabulum?
the hip socket, where the 3 parts of the os coxae fuse
what are the 3 parts of the os coxa?
ilium
ischium
pubis
name the features of the femur (superior to inferior)
head, greater sciatic notch, neck, lesser trochanter, linea aspera, patellar surface, condyles
names the feature of the tibia (superior to inferior)
intercondylar eminence, superior fibular articular facet, tibial tuberosity, popliteal line, tibial crest, medial malleolus, fibular notch
name the features of the patella
lateral and medial articular facets, apex
name the features of the fibula (superior to inferior)
styloid process, head, interosseous crest, lateral malleolus, malleolar fossa
what is a sesmoid bone?
former from intramembrenous ossification and the biggest one is the patella and can also appear in your toes
name the three regions of the foot and their bones
- ankle: 7 tarsal bones
- body of foot: 5 metatarsals
- pedal phalanges: 14 phalanges
