The Anatomical Position Flashcards
Aanatomical position
Stand erect with fleet flat under hip
Straight back, eyes forward
Arms by side, palms facing forward
Sagittal Plane
Plane that passes through the midline of the body
Parasagittal plane
Runs through parallel to the sagittal plane, but one side
Coronal plane
Passes through the body at right angles to the sagittal plane.
Decide the body into an anterior and posterior part.
Axial plane
Plane that decides the body into superior and inferior parts.
Superior
Above
Lateral
Further from sagittal plane
Further away from the midline of the body
Medial
Closer to the sagittal plane/ midline of the body
Superficial
Closer to the surface
Deep
Further from the surface
Anterior
Closer to the front of the body
Toes are anterior to the ankle
Posterior
Closer to the back of the body
Ipsilateral
The same side of the body
Right leg and right arm are ipsilateral limbs
Contralateral
The opposite side of the body
Supine
Variation of the anatomical position where patient is lying flat
