Why was it dangerous to use the great silk road?
The Turkish empire began to grow and the Muslims didn’t like the Catholics so they would rob and possibly kill them

The believed everyone else was a Heathen(BELIEVED IN FALSE GODS) and that they must be converted

What was a Caravel?
It was a new and better boat used in the age of explorations. It was clinker built (wooden panels in the hull overlap) and had lateen sails (triangular sails which made turning easier.

How could sailors find out their speed?
LOG, LINE AND KNOTS ( they would tie knots into a rope and tie it to a log. Then they threw the log overboard and counted how many Knots went through their hands and the boat moved away from the log)
What did Henry The Navigator realise?
That Portugal would become very rich if they were able to use a new sea route to get to India and that they should try and sail around Africa
