A

-Believed in them but wanted to balance the economy so voters would’t turn con.

  • Both Wilson and Castle agreed they would need to clamp down on Wildcat strikes
  • -> Strikes put a heavy burden on economy.

  • Many senior Labour Mp’s against It- Callaghan.
  • -> Wilson and castle forced to back down , never became law.

Despite being right of the party;

Callaghan was against the EEC, conservative on social policy and reluctant to devalue the pound.
–> Jenkins took the opposite view
