TF ODIN Afghanistan SOP Flashcards
When may pilots deviate from the SOP, regulations, policies, and procedures in place in Afghanistan?
Only during emergency situations to the extent necessary to meet the needs of the emergency. Any deviations must be reported to the chain of command as soon as possible.
At night or during an IMC let down: Aircrews will not descend below the Off Route Terrain Clearance Altitude (ORTCA) listed in the DOD Flip for the sector or sectors being flown unless ________.
Positive ground clearance is assured.
or
If the crew is on station and they determine their flight orbit will keep them a safe distance away from the nearest highest terrain in order to meet mission requirements; at the PC’s discretion.
For target locations greater than ____nm, a higher enroute altitude should be considered to conserve station time fuel requirements, and may have a higher MEA/ORTCA due to terrain.
100.
For target locations greater than 100nm, a higher enroute altitude should be considered to conserve station time fuel requirements, and may have a higher MEA/ORTCA due to terrain.
During IFR Departure Procedures in Afghanistan, All aviators will comply with what?
Published non-standard IFR takeoff minimums and departure procedures (DP) in flight information publications or, if unable, will comply with the Obstacle Avoidance Plan.
For flight into IMC or at night, One Engine Inoperative (OEI) climb gradient departure performance for all fixed-wing aircraft will be at least ___ feet per nautical mile (NM) or meet published non-standard IFR take-off and departure procedures for the runway in use, whichever is greater.
200.
For flight into IMC or at night, One Engine Inoperative (OEI) climb gradient departure performance for all fixed-wing aircraft will be at least 200 feet per nautical mile (NM) or meet published non-standard IFR take-off and departure procedures for the runway in use, whichever is greater.
What will happen for flights that do not comply with OEI climb criteria as referred above for IMC, night or day VMC requirements?
They will be briefed as a moderate risk when utilizing an obstacle avoidance procedure (OAP).
IMC departures at airfields without an instrument approach or published departure procedure are _______________.
Not authorized. These airports have not had an obstacle analysis and obstacle clearance requirements are not known.
What are the takeoff alternates required?
No aircraft will depart under IFR from an airport when the weather conditions at the departure airport are less than the authorized IFR approach minimums unless there is an alternate airport (meeting alternate planning minimums) within 1 hour flying time (at cruise speed with one engine inoperative).
If an aircraft must depart without a suitable takeoff alternate, what will happen.
Takeoff without a suitable takeoff alternate will be assessed as Extreme High Risk
When must the OAP be loaded into the second FMS?
The OAP will be loaded in the FMS so as to be immediately available to be used at night or anytime Aerodrome weather is reported less than or equal to 5000 feet ceilings and less than or equal to 3 SM visibility.
If you encounter Inadvertent IMC, what are your required actions?
Aircrews will utilize the TCAS and TAWS/EGPWS to aid in aircraft and terrain separation until in VMC and/or under positive RADAR control and an IFR clearance is received. At all times the crew will remain at least at or above the Off-route Terrain Clearance Altitude (ORTCA) for the enroute portion of the flight until RADAR flight following is provided or on a published Instrument Procedure. The preferred approach will be an ILS or PAR.
When must passengers wear seatbelts in the aircraft?
Passengers will wear seatbelts at all times while in flight, unless communicated to the crew, for a specific reason.
What are some things to consider when carrying passengers on TF ODIN aircraft?
Guest riders are defined as passengers who have a specific need to be manifested during a TF ODIN mission profile, and have been approved per the TF ODIN guest rider request form. They will be briefed and manifested.
Passengers will be under the escort of a crewmember during aircraft operations, boarding, and off-loading.
Aircraft doors will be operated by a trained crewmember only.
Weight and Balance (365-4) will be calculated for each configuration that does not meet the standard configurations listed in Flight Operations. The PC is responsible for ensuring the 365-4 is accurate, and when necessary, actual cargo and passenger weights should be used.
All passengers will receive hearing protection or get a headset for the flight.
When requesting fuel, what must be considered when deciding proper fuel loads?
It is crucial that maintenance receives the proper fuel loads to ensure the aircraft meet the 0.8% or 1.2% minimum climb gradient required per the Bagram Obstacle Avoidance Procedure or max weight required for the conditions of the runway environment; VUL times may be affected with higher temperatures and lower fuel loads.
When do aircrew require wing walkers?
Aircrew require wing walkers whenever taxiing within 10’ of an obstacle. Aircrew will assume any obstacle placed beyond the revetment threshold violates the required wingtip clearance and must have a wing walker.
