Narrative texts
tell a story which has a beginning, middle and end.
relate events which took place at a certain time or in a certain place, carried out by real or imaginary characters, following a sequential order.
give freedom of choice to write using any grammatical person.

Expository texts
present facts in the most neutral way with the aim of informing the reader, so that the writer’s point of view does not prevail.
use the third person.
Examples of this type of text are: academic papers, encyclopaedia articles and essays.

Argumentative texts
defend a ‘for or against’ position and present arguments so as to convince the reader; argumentative texts are opinion texts.
use various argumentative strategies to defend their premise, such as analogy, causality and generalisation.

Administrative texts
are texts of an official and formal nature which issue a statement or request documentation and are related to state or private institutions (municipalities, government bodies, schools, universities, hospitals).
convey information presented using standard expressions within the established norms.
