How do you test for sulfate ions?

A

Add dilute HCL followed by barium chloride solution and if a white precipitate of barium sulfate is created then the original compound was a sulfate

A

Carbonates react with dilute acids to form carbon dioxide

Acid + carbonate -> salt + water + carbon dioxid

A

Add dilute nitric acid followed by silver nitrate solution. A chloride gives a white precipitate of silver chloride
