• remove the bung and insert a burning splint
• hydrogen has burns rapidly and produces a pop sound

Oxygen

• use a glowing splint
• if we place glowing splint into test tube of oxygen
  = splint relights (bursts into flames)

Carbon dioxide

Answer 3

• use limewater (aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide)
• draw some of the gas into plastic pipette
• bubble the gas through limewater
• if repeated several times limewater may turn cloudy
  = co2 present

Question 4

Chlorine

Answer 4

• insert litmus paper into mouth of test tube
• chlorine bleaches litmus paper and turns it white
