What is meant by the term beta testing and how is it different to alpha testing?
Beta Testing is when members of the public, who have no connection to a project, are asked to test the website or software. This is different to alpha testing as they can use real world data in an attempt to find more errors
Who performs beta testing?
Beta testing is performed by any user, members of the public, people who are not connected to the project
Give two possible advantages of beta testing?
Testers are not biased
More errors can be found as real world data is being used
Errors that can only be found when running a project may be discovered
Give one possible disadvantage of beta testing?
It may put people off buying or using that product again in the future.
Explain two factors that will affect the usability of a product?
Layout - can users find their way around the site
Target audience- does it meet their expectations and abilities
Finding information - How long does it take to locate information
State one way in which you can make your interface more appealing to young children?
Use bright Appealing colours
Use a very simple interface with large buttons
Avoid clutter
Give animated feedback
Give an example of how a user interface you are familiar with has changed over time?
Increased use of touchscreens etc.
Why is the amount of space in memory that a website uses important to viewers?
If it uses too much space in memory then it might not be able to run on the users device, and it might take too long to load if they have limited bandwidth.
How can you ensure that your website can be viewed on all types of computer?
Create different versions for all types of computer
Why do stylesheets aid usability?
Style sheets make it simple to maintain consistency.
They can be used to quickly adjust elements across the product
Alternative style sheets can be used for accessibility reasons or different media types.
